“See What I Wanna See” open rehearsal live video
Oakland dance-rockers The Lovemakers released a new advance single “See What I Wanna See” on iTunes today, ahead of their forthcoming album, Let’s Be Friends (produced by Talking House and The Lovemakers). On this anthemic track, Lisa Light makes her priorities known, interbreeding groovacious Lily Allen urban-pop with Joan Jett-like “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” glory. Play it loud!
iTunes has fallen in love with The Lovemakers -- the single's featured both on iTunes' "WHAT'S HOT" and "NEW AND NOTEWORTHY" lists.
Meanwhile, on July 15, The Lovemakers stopped by the gallery at Talking House for an open rehearsal with fans to premiere songs from the upcoming album. Lisa Light and Scott Blonde, joined by new bandmates Cary LaScala (drums) and Gareth Lloyd (keys), ran through a blistering set of new material. Catch the performance of “See What I Wanna See” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Early reviews of Let’s Be Friends are starting to come in, with Synthesis proclaiming “bass, guitar and drums dashed with synth complement the singers’ interplay for a rollicking sound reminiscent of the B-52s.” The album drops September 8 on iTunes and nationally September 15.
With an outrageous live show that has established a cult-like following, The Lovemakers have begun to confirm tour dates including a residency at Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles every Tuesday in August. Stay tuned for details on additional dates as they head to the east coast for performances in New York City this October.

Star & Micey... Memphis swirled-out soulful folk pop!

Star & Micey’s self-titled debut album is slated for release on October 20, 2009. The album features a revolving door of fantastic musicians including Luther Dickinson (The Black Crowes, North Mississippi Allstars), Jody Stephens (Big Star) and Rick Steff (Cat Power, Lucero), just to name a few. However, when the sun sets, it is Josh Cosby, Geoff Smith, and Nick Redmond that work relentlessly night after night while remaining poor. Hopefully, the music they make can transcend material possessions, and exhibit something that is always tangible between these three troubadours; that thing is love.
